CHARLTON CHIROPRACTIC How I Can Help  |  Components of the Treatment  |  My Qualifications

The hand and the heart of chiropractic

I believe the restoration of health and wellness depends on a mindful collaboration between patient and doctor. It takes time and concentration to understand each condition thoroughly, and then artfully apply the hand and the heart of chiropractic.

I never schedule more than two appointments an hour, so you never feel rushed through a treatment.

Rather than pressing you to commit to multiple future visits, I prefer to demonstrate specific exercises that you can practice at home to avoid a recurrence of the problem.

My treatments always include supplementary therapies designed to relieve pain, loosen and relax muscle spasms, and calm the mind. This results in smoother, more comfortable adjustments, and prolongs healthy body alignment.

HOW I CAN HELP

I have successfully treated a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions such as:

  • Chronic headaches
  • Neck pain and loss of mobility
  • Chronic muscle tightness and spasm
  • Sciatic pain
  • Low back pain
  • Hip pain
  • Jaw dysfunction
  • Foot problems, such as plantar fascitis and Achilles tendon sprain
  • Shoulder problems
  • Wrist, elbow and knee pain

COMPONENTS OF THE TREATMENT

The Adjustment:

Chiropractors manipulate or “adjust” an area of the body to restore normal movement. There are a number of adjustment techniques available depending on your needs and comfort level, including several techniques that involve no twisting, turning, or “snap, crackle and pop” noises. The techniques I practice range from very gentle to firm.

Soft Tissue Therapies:

Muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia play a key role in maintaining healthy body alignment, and I utilize a variety of soft-tissue therapies in every treatment, such as:

Somatic Therapy

A type of neuromuscular re-education that allows you to release involuntary reflex muscle contractions that keep your body in a state of chronic tension.

Kineseo Taping

When applied over muscles, this comfortable lightweight tape reduces pain and inflammation, corrects muscle function, and improves lymphatic circulation.

Myofascial Release Therapy

Restrictions in connective tissue or fascia can cause pain and loss of mobility. Myofascial therapy releases these restrictions by stretching and manipulating the affected areas.

Active Isolation Therapy

A series of assisted stretching techniques that increases your range of motion, improves athletic performance, and reduces chronic pain.

Modalities:

Used appropriately, therapeutic modalities are extremely useful for pain relief and rehabilitation. The two physiotherapy modalities I use most often are:

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Rapidly vibrating sound waves create a “micro-massage” in the tissues. Besides feeling deeply warm and soothing, this highly effective therapy increases blood flow and metabolic activity, breaks down scar tissue, and accelerates the healing process.

Interferential Electric Stimulation

This is the most comfortable form of electric stimulation. It feels like a refreshing, tingly massage, and is used for both acute and chronic conditions to reduce pain, edema and muscle spasms.

MY QUALIFICATIONS

I received my doctorate, magna cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic, West in San Jose, California in 1999, and began my practice in nearby Santa Cruz. In addition to my undergraduate degree, I have an MBA from Northwestern University. I have done post-graduate studies in a number of related fields, such as somatic neuromuscular re-education, myofascial release, and Active Isolation stretch therapy. I am also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner.

In addition to being a chiropractor, I am also a certified fitness instructor and teach classes in muscle strengthening and cardio fitness at several health clubs, including Form & Fitness in Grafton.
